The lighting videos are all great. Whether strobe or window, it’s all about direction, reflection, and diffusion. My subjects these days are my kids, ages 6 and under, so it’s tough to practice. But I’ve used Sue’s techniques a bit and found some amazing results. My look has always had a bit more contrast and less nuance in the skin. I’m enjoying finding more detail and softer light for skin.
I have also been practicing using my husband as my model. I have the room at my studio just zero windows. I was struggling a bit with the lighting but I’m pretty close now. I have one white V-flat that I use and I am currently making myself a large scrim to use as a diffuser for when I bounce the light off of the v-flat. I do not have any white walls or ceiling. I tried using a large octabox with a white interior (not silver) and that lighting was a lot better but a bit too strong. I cant wait to try it with the scrim.
